Villarrica is situated at 87 km to the southeast of Temuco and at 27 km from Pucón, this city was founded in 1552 by Geronimo de Alderete with the main goal of exploring the gold mines and establish a path to the Atlantic. It is situated in the shore of the lake which has the same name and it is a shelter on the way for tourists who every year visit Pucón, Lican Ray and Villarrica volcano. In Villarrica there are lots of interesting places to visit such as the “Avenida Costanera”, Feria Mapuche, Muestra Cultural Mapuche, the museum and the cathedral. The city is most visited during the summer, between January and March.
