San Martín de los Andes

 San Martín de los Andes is located inside Lanín National Park and 1575 km. far from Buenos Aires city. It has positioned as the compulsory destination for the tourists who want to travel through Patagonia. The proximity of Chapelco International Ski Centre and the many activities in the open air which are possible due to its mountain landscape, forests and lakes, complement each other in a wide offer for the visitors’ leisure.
Fishing, hunting, beautiful lake and terrestrial trips and, of course, ski during all winter are among the attractions of the place. The settlement in this zone dates from the fortress’ foundation in 1883, although the foundation date is considered to be February 4th in 1898 when the fortress is carried to the current location of the city on the east side of Lake Lacar, extending to “Vega del Maipú”. With an orthogonal layout that makes easy to move around the city, with wide paved avenues and a wordy mountain style, it is surely one of the most beautiful cities of Patagonia. Its peace, quietness and cleaning are remarkable.

San Martín de los Andes is the most important tourist centre of Neuquén province.  With Cerro Chapelco development, in 70’s decade, an explosive population expansion was produced along with the building development that makes today possible for the city to have all kind of tourist services (including an airport). Its commercial activity is varied, with an offer of specialized clothing, fishing, woodworks and handicrafts in chocolate. It has an excellent gastronomic offer and a varied and complete hotel offer, counting more than 3000 beds.
